SPECIAL STATEMENT RELEASE:  05 MARCH 2026

Ottawa, Ontario – The Permanent Council of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) has issued a Statement Calling the Catholic Faithful to Prayer for Peace in the Middle East. The statement affirms that we cannot remain indifferent to an armed conflict that risks escalating into a prolonged war.

“Faced with rising tensions and the risk of escalating war, we invite the People of God in Canada to pray for peace. Let us ask the Lord to increase the thirst for justice, reconciliation, and true peace in the world. Let us pray that the leaders involved in this armed conflict will allow the light of wisdom and dialogue to guide their decisions. Where fear and anger threaten to overwhelm hearts, may the Holy Spirit inspire gestures of openness, reconciliation, and peace” – excerpt from the Statement.

The Statement encourages all Catholics to draw upon the message of the Gospel by becoming peacemakers, cultivating solidarity with people affected by war, and sustaining hope for a better world.   VIEW STATEMENT HERE

CCCB Issues Statement on Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza
Ottawa, August 25, 2025 – The members of the Permanent Council of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops (CCCB) have issued a statement in response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The statement calls attention to the suffering population of Gaza, particularly children and the elderly, whose lives continue to be endangered due to the ongoing violence and severe deprivation, as well as to the mounting casualties on all sides. The members of the Permanent Council echo Pope Leo XIV’s recent statements about the war and they remind the faithful in Canada to fast and pray for lasting peace in the Holy Land.

The Reel Justice Film Festival is a partnership between Development & Peace and The Roman Catholic Diocese of Hamilton’s Bishop Farrell Library & Archives. Their annual film schedule includes a movie chosen especially for youth! This year, you can watch “Marcel the Shell With Shoes On” on Thursday, March 27.  Themes: Youth, Resilience, Community, Migration.
Marcel is an adorable, 1-inch-tall shell who ekes out a colourful existence with his grandmother, Connie, and their pet lint, Alan. Once part of a sprawling community of shells, they now live alone as the sole survivors of a mysterious tragedy. This Pastoral Letter can be used as a prayerful help during the Season of Advent. Advent – A Season of Hope

During a visit at Ste. Bernadette Parish in Elliot Lake last Thursday, Bishop Dowd announced the news regarding the Sisters of the Congregation of the Handmaids of the Holy Child Jesus who have accepted to open a convent in Elliot Lake. They plan to offer their services to the St. Joseph General Hospital of Elliot Lake as well as to the whole community.  We welcome the Sisters to our Diocese.  CLICK HERE FOR MEDIA RELEASE

God of реасе and justice,
we pray for the реорlе of Ukraine today.
We pray for реaсе and the laying down of weapons.
We pray for аll those who fear for tomorrow,
that your Spirit of comfort would draw near to them.

Christmas & New Year’s Schedule:  SPECIAL NOTES BELOW:

  • There is no reserve seating.  Doors are open one hour prior to each mass.  When the Cathedral is full, others will gently be turned away.
  • We are LIVE STREAMING the 5:00 PM MASS so people who cannot attend church can watch from home.
  • At the 5:00 PM Mass, an additional 65 seats will be provided in the Parish Hall; parishioners can participate in, and watch the mass live; and communion will be distributed.
